I still think the best looking (not necessarily the most expensive card) is the Churche's Show Stopper. Anyone else have a favorite???

All of the Crusades are just gorgeous and you have to love the '93 Finest Refractor!! But my favorite is still the '98 Donruss Dignature Preview.

1996 Emotion-XL Legion of Boom

This question in combination with an article I read today on becket.com brings me to a topic that should be a great debate...what are the "Essential" Juan Gonzalez cards? What are the 10-20 (or more) cards that every Juan collector just HAS to have?

As a follow up, what is the one card you would love to add to your collection more than any other??

I will carefully consider my answer and put it in a post later.

1987 Procard
1989 BYN
1990 CMC
1991 Ultra Update (I once had a guy laugh when I offered him $100 for a PSA10)
1993 Donruss Elite Dominators (auto)
1993 Finest Refractor
1995 Lineup Venezuelan #311
1996 Leaf Signature Century Mark
1996 Select Mirror Gold
Any year 1/1

The above list is what I think every collector should strive to include in their collection. If they weren't in such high demand I would of added at least one Ted Williams signature card instead of the 96 Select mirror gold which is almost as hard to find.

I look at my 1999 CS41 Stadium Club Co-signers the most and I'm not sure if it's because I think it's his best card, the fact that it had to go to four players to get signed or because I have one and it's rare. Either way I'll pick that one.

1996 Pinnacle First Pitch Preview ~ Most wanted by me.

Here is my personal list of his best 10 cards.

#1 87 Gastonia Rangers (best card IMO cuz it's his first)
#1 88 Star Rangers
#2 1990 Scoreboard AUTO (first certified auto)
#3 1993 TW AUTOs (any)
#4 1993 Finest Refractor
#5 1996 Mirror Gold
#6 1999 CS41 Stadium Club Co-signers
#7 1990 Donruss Aqueous Test
#8 1993 Pinnacle Cooperstown Promo
#9 1997 Precious Metals Platinum
#10 Any 1 of 1

I thought about the Scoreboard Auto but because it wasn't a card specially made for them I decided the Donruss Donminators auto would be the one I would suggest. I think the Aqueous and the CS41 cards, a less then 10 made card (I think) which I don't see any of the top 5 collectors here having both is to scarce to put it on a must have list.

just my opinion!

I'm certainly not a fan of the Finest refractor as unlike Rob who has an eye for refractors, it took me a very long time to see the difference without scanning them. But they seem to bring a premium as they were the first refractors.

After much consideration and deliberation here is my list of what 10 cards every Juan collector should have (and they are at least reasonable to get):

1987 Gastonia
Any of the three BYN Puerto Rico cards
1993 Donruss Elite Dominators Auto
1993 Finest Refractor
1996 Select Certified Mirror Gold
1998 Donruss Signature Preview Auto
1999 Black Diamond A Piece of History (first game-used card)
1999 Skybox Autographics (either one)
2001 Leaf Rookies and Stars Triple Threads w/ Pudge and Ryan
2002 Upper Deck Diamond Connection Bat Around Quads w/ ARod, IRod, and Raffy)
Any of the 2004 SP Chirography Autos (Last hand touched autos)
Any 1 of 1I know there are so many other good cards out there. It was actually very hard to come up with a list.

2 cards that I really, really, really want are the 1993 Pacific (Blue uniform on back) and any of the Ted William Autographs.

There is my two cents. For what it's worth

Disappointed that the oddball king doesn't have a single one on the list. The 94 Sports Edition with Clemente in the background was close to making mine! But I do see reason in all that you listed. Good job.

But a reasonable 1/1 is pushing it!

My point is that there are enough 1/1s out there that it is reasonable that every Juan collector could acquire one.

Die-Cut: 1993 SP Platinum Power PP8

Etched: 1994 Pinnacle Museum Collection 350

Refractor-type: 1994 Select Skills SK5

Motion card: 1997 Stadium Club Instavision I12

I agree with this list... I have two 87 Gastonia BGS 9.5s, and all 4 TW autos (plus a rare red ink and a rare blue ink version of two of them). The TW autos to me are the best ones.
