Apparently the St. Louis Cardinals are considering giving Juan an invite to spring training. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

That's great. Just to be considered is hope. As Adelith has stated....New cards!!! And definitely for him to get to 500 will be the marker!!! And go for the RBI title again.

Seems like it is his turn to try to be Oakland's DH if they aren't going to hire Bonds to do it.

I don't doubt that he can do it. The only real question is how long before he starts with the back or leg problems.

St. Louis began spring play today but Juan wasn't in the lineup, but Pujols wasn't either so it is a scrub team.

Batting .167 in March. He doesn't have the time to slump while auditioning for maybe his last chance to play MLB.

It's where he is in the line-up. If he was before or after Pujols then he some pitches, but at 6-7 he wont see them too much. Wished they'd move him up a slot or 2. But over the years of keeping up the Juan, he'll pull it off. He has in the past.:D

nosterbor
03-10-2008, 05:42 PM
thats just GREAT! he is only hitting over .300 now,i guess they will have to release him before his back gives out or he rips his hamstring again! or he has to play in a throwback uniform again!;)

jjt111
03-11-2008, 03:04 AM
Correct, he's batting .308 after going 2 for 4 today. Plus he played right field which was good to see as they have had him just DH'ing in the past. Take it to em Juan!

I think we'll see the Cardinals cut Juan and he'll sign on with a team that really needs an outfielder, like the NY Mets. The cards seem to really want to go with these young guys in the outfield.

from St Louis CBS home page about their recent cut's .....

"Both moves clarify an increasingly obvious picture on the offensive side of the roster. With 13 available spots for hitters, the Cardinals have only 15 candidates remaining in camp

Juan Gonzalez's abdominal injury has all but eliminated him from serious competition. D'Angelo Jimenez, meanwhile, has done little offensively or defensively to earn his way from non-roster invitee to a position on the roster."

Has anyone heard of any reports of his strain? Last I heard was he was sent for a MRI, but I haven't seen the results or details since he was sent for it.

(question from fan- leads to info about juan) I am a Brian Barton backer and feel that he needs to remain in the organization. I know that he has to make the 25-man roster or else be sent back to Cleveland, barring a trade. Do you think the Cardinals could obtain the rights to Barton, and if so, who would they give up?
-- John E., Effingham, Ill. Many Cardinals fans still seem to be very worried about losing Barton, even after Monday's cuts. However, with only six outfielders remaining in camp, and Juan Gonzalez unable to compete for a spot due to injury, Barton pretty much has it sewn up. Something shocking will have to happen for him not to be on the Opening Day roster.
And that's good for the Cardinals, not only because Barton is an extremely interesting player, but because Barton's spring would have made it very difficult to work out a trade with Cleveland. His stock has climbed not only with the Cardinals, but with anyone who has been watching.
Thanks for answering my first question about Gonzalez's chances of making the roster. So what will happen if he doesn't make it? Minor Leagues?
-- Raul R., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
That's one of the big questions right now. The Cardinals have said all along that Gonzalez said he would accept an assignment to Memphis. However, when Gonzalez was asked that very question by reporters recently, he didn't really answer it.
There's a decent chance that if and when it's officially determined that Gonzalez will not make the team, he could be granted his release to try to sign on with another team. The Cardinals will have no shortage of players to get at-bats in the Minors, so it might be best for everyone.

If he truly wants to play, I don't understand why he just go to the Cardinals' AAA team for now. To go home, sends the wrong message, sends the message that he is a quitter, a message that he has sent before.

i was just watching the cards/astros game, and one of the announcers said that Juan was not going to play ball this year. Is that true or does he know what he's talking about? I read that he was going back to Puerto Rico to recover and possibly come back for extended spring training later. Plus he is currently on their inactive list. Anybody know anything?
