I got the first card on ebay for half of the price you paid. It is not manufactured by a baseball card company. It definately has the apparenace of a boot leg card without payment to baseball in either the USA or PR. The back of the card has his history through Kansas City Royals so it has to be a fairly new printing trying to cash in on Gonzalez fame. My guess is that it looks like a card that would have been a give away at at Mayagez game during 2010. I expect in the future more of these will appear on ebay.

As far as I know this is not a giveaway card in Puerto Rico, I'm following the stuff that issue Juan Gonzalez at El Mani Team and this is not one of them...

This just goes to show that we have to be careful when buying these cards as there a lot of fake that are going around!! Would be nice if we got an idea of how we can tell the difference between the two as they look so real!! Would really appreciate an answer!!

Without having the card in hand, and just having to go off the image in the auction in the scan, the thickness of the card stock is hard to tell. In this particular case though, the dead give away is the lack of a corporate logo on the front of the card. All the major card companies were/are pretty fanatic about plastering their logo on the card. Fortunately for us Juan collectors, most of the real tough forgeries in the hobby take place with vintage cards. I've put together about half of the T206 set and there are a lot more issues with those cards than with modern stuff. The T206 set alone has made PSA a successful company; most the collectors of that set that I know will only purchase graded cards (including myself, for the most part).
