Who is the King???

I have to say, that as this site nears it's one year anniversary I am pleasantly surprised at the response. Thirteen people have added their collections online. There are 37 total members. The forums are fantastic and I can't say how awesome it is to see so many pics of Gonzalez stuff in one place. As I write this one question burns in my mind...

Does anyone out there have over 4,000 different Juans???

What a collecting accomplishment that would be. I believe there is someone out there who has hit that hallowed number. I can think of a few contenders...guys who might have 4,000.

aircorp42k - Wil
2725 - Dan
adelith - Roberto
mcabee1 - Chris

Let me know what you think?

nosterbor 07-14-2007 09:27 PM

wil maybe, the other 3 not even close!

Gonzaleznut 07-14-2007 10:12 PM

Not even adelith??? I bet he is closer than you think.

jjt111 07-15-2007 05:54 AM

Wil has sold off some of his collection so that is a no. Dan collects 87 - 96 all cards and Gem Mint cards of all years, without commons that is a no. Chris is always buying and selling so that is a no. adelith would be the best guess but I doubt anyone really will ever do it!

freddie 07-15-2007 03:36 PM

If Rob would stop trying to buy every card and instead just 1 of every card then he could hit 4,000 in no time.

nosterbor 07-15-2007 04:56 PM

Roberto has won only about 139 cards from the 2003-2005. unless he does beckett there is no way. 3700 maybe, not 4000. alot of his feedback is from winning hotwheels.

jjt111 07-15-2007 09:19 PM

Until someone comes here with a more impressive collection then Rob's, he will remain the king in my eyes!

Gonzaleznut 07-19-2007 10:58 PM

How many different cards do you think are represented by the members of this site?? Over 4,000...I think so. Between all of us there are well over 50,000 total cards. Rob alone has 35-40,000 on his own.

nosterbor 07-22-2007 03:27 AM

43,000:d

jjt111 07-24-2007 10:46 PM

When I open a card like this > http://www.vintagegaming.org/juangon...hp?cardid=4279 all I do is say wow, Rob likes that one for sure.

Just simply amazing!

Gonzaleznut 07-24-2007 10:55 PM

Yeah. That's nuts isn't it? I will get to see all 125 of them in a couple of days.

jjt111 07-24-2007 11:42 PM

I think we all agree that Rob has the ultimate collection but here are the break down by year and where the top three collectors of that year sit.

Seven years outright and three ties for Jonas. That is unbelievable! Great work. I can only imagine what your collection would look like if you had not stopped at 2002 for so long.

I am a little surprised I am only winning two years, but I always seem to be a contender...

gonzologan 07-25-2007 05:17 AM

wow looking at that list makes me think that my collection is pathetic nice work guys keep it up it gives me something to look forward to

Great list now how bout we all introduce ourselves to each other..here is a little about me...

My name is Kevin and I'm 40 years old.I live in Stroudsburg PA which is in NE PA along the border of NJ.I'm married with 3 "great" stepchildren.I'm a supervisor at a plastics recycling plant for the last 21 years.I've been collecting Juan since day 1 but my favorite team is the Bosox. It's great nowadays to be a Bosox fan in Yankee land.My collection mainly consist of cards through 2002 and a few of you have asked why just to 02.The reason is that is when I met my wife and the kids.Enough said as I'm sure family comes first for all of you also.OK enough about me let's hear from you...

Kevin

Hey Kevin. Check out this old thread. It gives some of the stories of the members.

http://www.vintagegaming.org/juangon...hread.php?t=19

For you newer members, it is great to go back through the old threads and look at some of the stuff. Feel free to add in your two cents.

jjt111 07-26-2007 09:35 PM

Fair warning! I'm attacking 2000 with a passion and expect to have over 80% this month. Then I'll work on 2001 as 80% is my goal in each year up till 2003. I chase a year at a time yet still watch for later years and purchase hard to get cards in prior years. I find that you need to get the higher price cards as they are near impossible to find in latter years. Yet commons and not so scarce cards become cheaper and fast collection fill in's. Going through all the stores and stuff is much easier when you go after a particular year.

Did you know that I believe the 2000 collection year did not have a signature card. First since 1995.

jjt111 08-23-2007 05:55 AM

With part of Dan's collection added he has changed the yearly highs. With him adding to his count and Roberto to his I'm sure this will change again next month. Oddball counts were new to this list.

Look at me...I'm King of the Oddballs. How fitting.

jjt111 08-23-2007 09:49 PM

:) ~ That by all means is not a bad thing. I hope in time to see you behind me!!!

Gonzaleznut 08-27-2007 11:19 AM

Jonas, please tell me you have three cards on the way to get you over 3,000....

Gonzaleznut 09-27-2007 04:37 AM

Hey Jonas, Who are the leaders now since Roberto has added his collection?

Interesting discussion. I have some more cards and other stuff around the house that are not on the "official" list. It is to frusterating for me to try and add to the list so I sit here and watch the card count of others pass me by. No sour grapes here. I am really glad to see guys with more cards than I have or guys who think that they have more than I have from 86-96. I still like to look at Juan items for any year so please keep up the good work and add more for me to look at!!!! I really like looking at the weird stuff.

Why is it frustrating for you to add new things to the list?

538 09-30-2007 01:57 AM

I tried to add a single item. It took about 1/2 hour. Results procuced are hardly effective. As the oldest collector in the group I may not live long enough to update :D. If it the group did not help, my count would still be zero :(. Computers are not my thing. I like my collection even if it is not the largest in the group. Do the rest of you like your collections ????? Be specific as to what you like and dislike about the collection.

God I hope so after all these years!! I actually appreciate the rarer oddball stuff more now than I used to. I just realize how hard it is to find some of that stuff now.

I really treasure all of the "hand-touched" autographed cards. Once the stickers came out, autographed cards really lost some legitimacy in my eyes.

jjt111 10-06-2007 04:33 AM

Dan,

I do think I have a card you don't have! The 95 Score Rules Jumbo, unless you got it in recent years :( Other then that I'm sure you have every card I have and more except for a promo or two.

Jonas

538 10-07-2007 02:32 AM

Jonas,

You will just have to come to California and look for yourself at my collection.

Dan
