1998 Finest Mystery Finest

There are errors/variations of each card M31 - M34. Topps inadvertently made some cards that were not marked with an "R" refractors, and some that were marked with an "R" were actually not refractors. You can easily tell the difference.

Shouldn't these be added to the list?

freddie 07-29-2007 03:10 PM

Yes, we already have variations of this sort on the list.

jjt111 07-29-2007 03:56 PM

Did you see some of Juan's that are that way? I was told a long time ago that there were 1996 Pinnacle Aficionado First Pitch Preview cards made of Juan and I think that is bunk! I know they made some of other players but not of Juan. I went through my mysterys and they are as marked. Just want to make sure you feel comfortable with your source.

I agree with your assessment of the 1996 Pinnacle First Pitch Preview card. It does not exist. Chris (mcabee1) agrees as well. I think it should be removed.

Another card that Chris and I do not believe exists is the Score Rules Jumbo, but Jonas, you have one? Could you put a scan up of it?

As for the Finest Mystery Finest errors. My source is that both Rob and I had the variations. He having some of them and I having others. The error only applies to card #s M31-M34.

I will add them.

the mystery errors are real, they were first listed in beckett in december of 98 and had a write up on how to send them back to topps for the corrected version. i traded mike some of my doubles.i even have a psa graded error that states the error. as for the first pitch, juanfan19 has one! this person has fell off the face of the earth back in 03!

Isn't juanfan19, Jacob. He sells alot of stuff on ebay and I can ask him if he had or has the first pitch preview. I was told that they made a different one everyday to be given away in the contest but never made it as far as card 99. I can't find my Score Rule Jumbo Set card but I know I have one somewhere. They are numbered to 3000. I have went through some extras and also found a 32R that wasn't a refractor. Also looking for the score I found that I had two versions of the Fleer #285 card. Front the same different style letters on the back.

jjt111 07-29-2007 08:12 PM

Until I find my Score jumbo I have removed it from my list.

the fleer card is awesome! that baseball card needs to be put on the list. along with the card you have with no coating it is an error card!

Not sure which is the common 1995 #285 fleer card. The one with the outlined numbers or the solid color numbers. Only have the two in my collection and the spare box doesn't have any in it. Someone will have to let me know which one is the more common one.

someone needs to help me out with my above problem!

Please,
Jonas

My only copy of the Fleer card is the version without shadowing, if that helps.

I also found one of the Mystery Finest errors in my box. It's a non-refractor #M33 with the "R".

I definitely think the Fleer variation and all the Finest variations should be added.

nosterbor 08-01-2007 07:14 AM

the card on the right is 6 to 1

knr47 08-08-2007 02:15 PM

When the Mystery Finest variations are added, maybe R's should be added to the applicable card numbers. For example:

M31 Finest Mystery Finest 1 Non-refractor
M31R Finest Mystery Finest 1 Non-refractor error
M31 Finest Mystery Finest 1 Refractor error
M31R Finest Mystery Finest 1 Refractor

Would this make it any less confusing?

freddie 08-08-2007 02:18 PM

I'll add the relevant information to the description field. I don't like changing numbers, and in fact, a lot of the numbers are wrong since the list originated from Beckett and they seem to like to remove alpha character from numbers. Example P8 just becomes 8

Which variations do you know of exactly? I added the card that Jonas posted above. Can you add the rest, following my lead?

Gonzaleznut 08-08-2007 07:41 PM

Yes...I will add them tonight.

Gonzaleznut 08-09-2007 12:14 AM

I have added all of the error variations as well as scans of the ones I have.
