Good Auctions
I think that it would be nice to let each other know when there are auctions that we see for cards one of us need.
Freddie, This would be one for you. http://cgi.ebay.com/03-DONRUSS-STUDI...QQcmdZViewItem |
Yeah I already saw that one. At the moment I am trying to limit my self to not more than $3 for non serial GU cards that routinely sell for $1 - $2. That one is $4 shipped..
I do think the topic of the thread is a great idea though. |
You make a good point Freddie. I don't mean to get on a soapbox, but what is the deal with eBay. Does anyone else find the s/h to be a rip off? Too many sellers use shipping as a way to raise margins.
Let's say there is a card that you need and it books for $2.50. The seller think he is making a good deal by starting the auction at $0.99. However, when you add in shipping at even $2 then you are now paying 120% of high book value for a card that should cost no more than $1 at your local shop. Then you have cases like I faced today...I paid $5 for shipping. F-i-v-e dollars. Now, it was a card I really wanted so I am paying it, but still...it certainly enters my mind when I am bidding. I look at the total cost to get the card to my house. Think this thru with me for a second. A card cost $0.69 to mail, $0.25 for the bubble mailer, a dime for the topload. Add $0.50 for listing fees and nobody should charge more than $2 for shipping. Most people do charge that I realize, but way too many gouge you. I send emails to the high shipping sellers, but they usually come back with some smart aleck remark. Most don't care. That is another reason I buy from beckett so much is the ability to get several cards from one dealer all at once and save on shipping. I think paying $3 to $5 total for any game used card serial numbered over 50 is a good deal. More than that and I am not inclined to bid. I guess that is where patience comes in. Oh well, I have to go...I have some auctions ending soon and I need to do some stretching before I have to bend over and take it up the... |
I think we all factor the s/h price into the card's total before bidding. I can't really count my local card shops - if they had Juan Gonzalez cards, they would be 75% of high book.
I spend a lot of time in the eBay shops looking for sellers who have multiple $5 - $10 BV cards that I need and charge $.25 or $.50 for each additional card. Don't waste time contacting sellers as they will each have their own reason and will shove it down your throat. Gas, time, etc, etc. |
Example I just bought all these from one seller an hour ago:
2004 JUAN GONZALEZ GAME-USED BAT SWATCH SP'100 2002 JUAN GONZALEZ INDIANS RBI KINGS GAME-USED BAT 2004 JUAN GONZALEZ TIMBER&THREADS GAME-USED BAT SWATCH 2004 JUAN GONZALEZ DUAL GAME-WORN JERSEY SP'150 Each card was $2.49 and S/H was $4.50. The way I look at is - I paid $5.49 for one card and $3 for 3 cards. I couldn't have done any better if I was patient and bid on each card in other auctions. |
|
Yeah I've been pondering that auction. Guess waiting for someome to take it or bid on it to decide it for me.
|
I'll pass. I would bid $10 but not $15. I have been able to find similar sets of cards in eBay shops from sellers who combine s/h for cheaper.
|
I don't know if it is just me, but I see Juan's cards going for a lot more than they used to. There are many more bids and it is tougher to find bargains. Just thought I wuold get everybody's take.
|
Yes, there seems to be an uptake going on.

99 topps tek gold
The 99 Topps tek gold I had bid on I already have. Got too excited and didn't look until after I had bid. But I only made a $5 bid and certainly expect it to bring more.
Just thought I would pass that on, Jonas |
I’m still puzzled at the Ted ebay buyer. Besides .01 auctions and few private auctions of adult stuff he hasn’t bought a Juan card or a Williams card. Yes he did bid on that one signed shirt but didn’t win. Yes he did buy a car from ebay of some value @ 9000. But to join in 2005 and have 37 feedbacks and 32 of them coming in the last month is weird. The car was a Boston area car and that might make him from that area and in turn make him a Williams’s collector but still too many questions unanswered. I hate to see a card like that going to anyone other then a Juan collector!

230038068136 > 495 1991 Topps cards. That is something only Rob would bid on!

ebay auction # 140050071362 > 1992 topps triple header photo ball.
Just something that I have in my collection that is in better then average condition and rarely have the whole package. |
The box is in better condition than mine but I'm happy with what I have.
|
I like the item and I need it, but doesn't that seem a little picey?

I agree. That is a tough card to pick up for less than $20. |
Jonas, I thought you had the 91 football back card but your list doesn't have it now. There is one on eBay now:

I'm sure I have it but have yet to find it! Thanks for the thought. I might get it if I don't find it.

brugvu auctions
Have you guys seen the auctions of this former Juan collector?
http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZbrugvuQQhtZ-1 His prices are outrageous. I sent him an email telling him that he is being a little unrealistic and he should consider lowering his intial price. Look at his response. "I wouldn't piss me off if i were you. WHo the hell are you to tell me how much to sell my juans for. And yes i did Really bid too much for these. If you dont like the prices then dont bid. Juan Gonzalez is a LOSER. A DRUG USER. A CHEATER. looking at these cards makes me want to vomit. Just remember, one more stupid question/comment and i will let EBAY know about your Harassment. " He is actually selling some pretty good cards there. |
Yeah, he appears to be enticing angel-415 to pay the prices.
|
He's not a Juan collector. The asshole only has recent cards. I emailed him and told him the 2002 card was a 2005 Pastime card and never got a reply. True player collectors, I have found to be good people. He isn't acting that way.
Jonas |
Angel-415 must have a nice collection!!!!

ANY CARD # 50 OR LESS GET's ME GOING! OUTSTANDING!
ROB. |
Too funny.
I forgot to pay my eBay fees and my account was suspended so when my snipe bid on the 1993 Refractor was placed, it wasn't allowed. I bid $110 and I would have most likely won. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=190056747398 |
No you would not have. Rob had a $150 proxy bid on it. I was so pissed at him for outbidding me. I could have had that card for $43. He said he didn't realize I was bidding on it.
|
$150? That seller has sold several PSA9 recently that only sold for $120 - $130 and Rob didn't win those so I assumed he didn't bid that high on this one.
|
Too bad that your agreement broke down. This is what I am doing for you, Mike and Jonas.
I used to scan the new auctions and put my bids immediately into my snipe program. Now I scan new auctions to see what is coming up and any good buy it nows. I no longer schedule my snipe bids until the last day of the auction. If I see that one of you is winning an item with at least a semi respectable bid and the item isn't rare, then I won't bid on it. By rare, I mean like a card serial numbered around 50 or less or exceptions like the 93 Finest Refractor. Of course, I am not bidding on many items right now so I don't have much of an effect on what you pay for cards anyway. The eagerness of Puerto Ricans to pay alot plus Rob's desire to own the market have greatly turned me off. I feel if I just wait, even if it is years, these cards are going to be had for a lot cheaper. I may miss out on the rare stuff but I am the opposite of Rob, low number serial cards do not interest me any more than commons. I only care about variety. |
I COULDN"T AGREE MORE!! That is exactly how I think it should work. I don't have a problem with one of you wanting a card and if it is rare then it is fair game. Otherwise we should have consideration for each other.
What made me mad about Rob is that he already has two 93 refractors. He doesn't need another one. I don't have any. It just made me a little angry. |
With PSA having over 170 of those graded and BGS having 31 I would think the ungraded ones like I have are the rarest. But mine is off center much like this one ( 280056734372 ) so I would like a 9 or 10 as well to replace it. I did not place a bid on the the one Mike had a bid on hoping he would get it to fill his hole in his collection. Next time maybe.
Jonas |
Good thing that we aren't after Pudge's 93 refractor
PSA10 $2400 http://cgi.ebay.com/1993-FINEST-REFR...QQcmdZViewItem The PSA 9 selles for $600 - $800 |
Rob also won a PSA 10 Juan 93 refractor yesterday. He got it for $177. Unbelievable!! I am going to try and convince him to sell me his PSA 9 he just won now. We'll see.
