Not that I thought he would make it, but this is pretty disappointing to only get 5.2% of the vote. I thought that the 2 MVPs, the 2 home run titles (before Canseco got to the Rangers), and the playoff performance against the Yankees would get him more consideration than this; and definitely more than some of the guys who got more votes than he did.
I did watch a show on the MLB network just prior to the announcement. They showed several Juan Gonzalez highlights. Then Bob Costas came on and started explaining how much things had changed and that Juans slugging % was better than Musials...and that even though Musial was an automatic for the hall, he would NEVER vote for Juan Gonzalez.
The writers may vocally state that Canseco isn't a credible source of information, but their votes are validating him as being reputable. I was surprised that on the show, they really kept promoting Bagwell...I guess his friendship with Caminiti doesn't concern them.
The Hall of Fame and the village of Cooperstown has a real mess on their hands here. If all the suspected steroid guys are kept out, the hall membership either gets watered down or doesn't grow. I know that the folks up there really count on induction weekend for their economy so this doesn't bode well for them.
